Average Time Spent Online per U.S. Visitor in 2010

I’m curious if people are still surprised by the heavy user age group. What would be a nice overlay is the ‘kind’ of usage per age group/hour. How much on company Facebook pages/websites, how many on Twitter and so on.
Great data point!
It would also be interesting to see how much mobile internet usage contributed to overall online activity by age group. That might bump up the average hours online per month for the 18-24 yos.
I have questions similar to Danny. Do these hours include work? Do these house include hours online on mobile devises? Thank you, Stephanie.

These include minutes spent online from both home and work locations. It does not factor in time spent on the mobile Internet.
Stephanie, where can I get more information on how people are spending this time on the internet?
Stephanie – I find it difficult to comprehend that this data includes work usage AND personal/home usage i.e. during a 15 hour “waking” day, US Internet users are only online for an average of 1 hour…?
This would make sense if it was the users “personal” use of their Internet time. Can you please clarify.

These figures represent the average American. So while there are people who spend 8 hours online at work each day, there are others who don’t work at a desk and may only log on once per week from home, or even less. Some may use computers regularly with work, but not necessarily the internet every day.
